A Fisherman's Tale
In this piece I investigate methods of visual storytelling through costume and shadow play. Inspired by the folk tale "Abdullah the Fisherman and Abdullah the Merman" from the book "One Thousand and One Nights", I explore questions raised in the story about death and spirituality. I combine the art of shadow play with that of costume design where the costume is the main transformative visual narrative behind the white screen. In this interpretation we see the fisherman undergoing a series of transformations while on one of his fishing excursions ultimately becoming part of the sea.
